Fruitie Bear

I'm forever grateful for the gift of life the Father has created in me through my union with Chong. A baby is indeed a bundle of joy, long even before it is born, people are congratulating us and sending us blessings. We are delighted to have a small family unit starting out very soon this June, which also marks our 4th year wedding anniversary, more celebrations to follow in years to come.

Nathan's diary Myanmar

1- Recovering from diarrhoea

On the 18th of December, I woke up at 3am having a funny feeling in my stomach. I had the sudden feeling to go to the toilet to poop. Dashing to the toilet, I let go the Undigested Waste into the toilet. However, the Undigested waste produced from me was not the ordinary kind of poop.It was watery. That was a bad sign. Hoping it was not what I thought it was, I went back to bed.
After an uncomfortable 30 min of tossing and turning, I felt the uncomfortable feeling again. I dashed to the toilet to pass out more Undigested Waste. But, Alas! I was too late!I farted and my underwear immediately stank like the world's smelliest sewer. Gross! I thought as I sat down on the toilet seat again and passed out even more waste. My greatest fear was right! I had Diarrhoea! Oh No! That meant no more Milk, Orange juice, Nutella. Luckily there wasn't any vomit. Walking back with an empty stomach (and getting a new set of underwear), I drifted off to a fitful sleep. I had to rush to the toilet two more times that night! It was one of the worst nights I had ever experienced!

The following morning at 5am, guess where I was? Yes, believe it or not I was in the toilet again passing out more waste. Even at the fifth time, my poop was still liquid. I groaned. From 3am, I had not slept a wink. I prayed that God would take this awful disease away. At 6am, I told my father I had Diarrhoea. he immediately called Uncle William, who had brought a First-Aid Kit in case of emergencies(like now). My father gave me two Charcoal Pills. These pills were supposed to absorb everything in my stomach, so that no longer had things to pass out. I hoped that they would work. It was the first time I was swallowing a tablet. I tried to swallow it together with some water. But, to no avail! I somehow swallowed all the water, leaving the tablet behind. I tried two more times. No luck! Just then, I tasted something horrible. The Charcoal wrapper had peeled off and I had tasted the charcoal inside! It was disgusting! But, I had no choice but to eat it. My teeth were black when I finally managed to swallow it down. 😱

That Morning, I went down to the breakfast place, ready to dash up in case I had that feeling again. My mother told me that I had to eat plain porridge and plain bread. No Nutella, No Milk, No juice. I took a bowl and scooped up some porridge, thinking it would be the yummy porridge from Singapore with chicken sauce and fish balls.

       I was wrong. Dead wrong.😱

I took one spoonful of porridge and drank it. It tasted horrible. I examined the porridge carefully. I discovered that the Hotel Staff had just poured water into the bowl. After adding rice. There was no meat at all. It was tasteless. I asked my mother if I could eat something else but she insisted that porridge water was good for me.😭 I finally managed to gulp it down. At least I didn't feel that horrible feeling any more. Through my parents, I learnt that many others in my team were also affected by the Diahhorea. But no one had gone to the toilet as many times as me. When I was eating, Many people from the team came over to ask how I was feeling. I was comforted that people cared. My parents were wondering if it was a good idea that I should join them for the activities for that day or should I stay in the hotel and rest. In the end, I went out with them.

Before we left the hotel, I prayed that I would not need to poop on the bus. That would be awkward cause there would be no where to go toilet in the bus. On the bus, I had no puking feeling at all. Thank God!😊 For the rest of the day, all was well except that I felt really tired throughout that day( that I even slept on the bus). The Charcoal Pills really worked! When we reached the hotel, I thanked God again for curing me.

       It was an Unforgettable Day!

(The Diahorrea was caused by the dinner the previous day at a Local person's house. Good thing was, the whole Mission Team ate in Air-Con places for the rest of the trip to reduce the chances of such things happening again.) 😊

                                                                                                                                 (End of Part !)

                                                                                                                               Regards, Nathan Sin

Rubrix Cube part 2 ( which is not as funny)

Before the Mission Trip even started, My mother had said that I was not allowed to bring Playing Cards to Myanmar, so I brought my 3 by 3 Rubrix Cube. Then, I only knew how to solve 1 side of the 3 by 3 Rubrix Cube and could never solve the whole thing. During the Mission Trip I came across a Rubrix Cube expert named Jovan.(who claimed he had 13 other cubes back home in Singapore) He could solve that cube in less than 20 seconds( what I thought was impossible) He agreed to teach me how to solve the cube. He wrote down a few algorithms to guide me in solving the Cube. Every day, on the bus or at the dinner/lunch place, I would try my best to solve the cube. He was patient and kind when he thought me, correcting my mistake. Jovan was really one of a kind as he could solve a 3 by 3, a 4 by 4 and even a 5 by 5! 😱 He could even solve a 3 by 3 blindfolded! Watching Jovan's fingers flying over another rubrix cube, I knew I had to master solving it. Jovan made it look like 'chicken feet'. I was determined to learn it.

One Day, Jovan was trying to fix his 5 by 5 cube when two pieces suddenly fell out. I thought that was the end to the cube but he somehow still managed to fit the pieces back into place.  I was amazed! He even had a screwdriver used specially to fix cubes. I continued with my daily lessons. I became engrossed with learning to solve the cube that I even persuaded my father to buy two more cubes at a nearby store, 'Iceland'. When I complained that it was too hard, Jovan patiently thought me how to solve the cube, step by step. He said you just had to match the colours to the correct places, make the second layer, then the third layer. Jovan even demonstrated how to do it to me slowly.

Over the next few lessons with Jovan, I finally managed to get the hang of it. On the last day of the Mission Trip, I solved a 3 by 3 Rubrix CubeπŸ˜ƒ. I was over the moon( although I couldn't do it without the piece of paper with the algorithms on it) I thanked my teacher profusely. Jovan told me that I would soon have master memory over how to solve the cube and I would be able to do it without looking at that piece of paper.  I hoped so.

From that day on in Singapore, I practised every day and timed myself. Each time I did it, my timing improved. My best timing was 1 min 35 sec.( a far cry from Jovan's) πŸ˜“

My sister became interested in learning the cube too. I tried teaching her but she kept messing the cube up. Perhaps one day in the future, she would master the cube, just like me...

                                                                                                                              Regards Nathan sin

                                                                                                                               End of Part 2

  Skit (part 3)

A month before the Mission Trip started, our team had to meet at ARPC every Saturday evening to make preparations for the trip. We decided to do a Skit. After further discussions, we decided to do a Skit on a parable of the prodigal son. We chose a role to play. I ended up being the Prodigal Son's bad friend whose job was to spend all the money he had.😈 (My sister got the pig's role.πŸ˜‚) Our team prepared some props at Church that were used in the Skit. Soon, everyone had a role. Jovan was the Prodigal Son. Uncle William was his father. Miriam and I were Jovan's bad friends. My sister and Joshua were the pigs. Uncle Spencer was the pig farmer. It was to be a silent skit, as English is foreign to the country we're going. So we had to use actions. Soon, the rehearsal started.

" On a random farm in the world, two sons were working on a field" The Narrator recited. ( Jovan and my father took up shovels and started to dig) "Their father often praised them for their hard work. One day, the younger son did not want to continue working" ( The scene showed The Prodigal Son throwing his spade onto the ground and lying down) "The father urged the son top continue working but the son refused" ( end of scene 1)

" The younger Son wanted his father's money so he could leave the farm and go out to play"The Narrator continued ( The scene showed the Prodigal Son pointing at the money bag in his father's hands and stomping his feet) " The father was reluctant but eventually gave in, giving the bag of money to his son and walking sadly home. The younger son packed his bag and went out to the city. " End of scene 2.

Now it was my turn to act. " The prodigal son went out with his two friends to party" (I played scissors paper stone with my two other friends and went to shop, spending Jovan's money.) I bought a toy pizza and pretended to eat it while the prodigal son and my other friend bought Ice Cream. " Soon, all the money was spent and the friends left him" I walked away, leaving the poor Prodigal Son alone and friendless ( end of scene 3)

" The Prodigal Son found a job at a pig farm to earn some money. " The Scene showed showed Jovan feeding my sister and Joshua( who wore pig masks and pretended to be pigs). The Pig farmer made pig noises. " The Prodigal Son was so hungry that even the pig food looked appetizing. "  The Prodigal Son was ashamed of his

" When the father saw his son coming, he ran to him, hugged him  actions to his father  and decided to return home, with hope that his father will accept him top be one of his servants" The Narrator continued. ( End of scene 4) and kissed him. The Scene showed The Prodigal Son kneeling down and begging for forgiveness. I laughed. Jovan's acting was pretty good. A robe was placed around the Prodigal son. Then, the skit ended.

The Audience gave remarks of how the Skit could be improved. They said I could show them what the bad friends(me and Miriam) bought.

Hannah's diary entry Dec 2018

1. The skit

At first, I was annoyed that I was the pig.🐷😑😭 But I realized that it was the easiest role. I went on google and searched how to make a pig mask. First I cut a paper plate into half. Then, I cut out two eyes. After that, I cut out a a pig nose and coloured the pig mask. All done!πŸ˜ƒ The other pig was Joshua. As both of us did not know how to make a pig sound, the pig farmer, Uncle Spencer made the sounds. My job was easy, I only had to crawl around which was kind of gross. The floor was not too clean. I only had to pretend to eat the pieces of ``food'' Uncle Spencer and Jovan, the prodigal's son gave me.

2. Dancing

Apart from the skit. I had other things to do. Such as dancing to the song ``WE WERE THE REASONS''. I thought it was a pretty nice song. But the bad thing were that I had to wear white gloves. My hands were in the Sahara desert in there.πŸ˜… The actions to the song were pretty easy, and I had done the song before. When I did the dance, my mother did the actions at the back for me  in case I forgot.

3. Painting

On the last few days, we went to a  building to paint. We could chose to do painting, sanding or plastering.  I chose to paint the walls. I wanted to  use the rollers, but there weren't enough.😭 Instead, I used a small brush. The painter told us to paint the walls blue and the pillars grey. After I had finished my side of the wall, I went back in to drink some 100 Plus It was my first time drinking it and had no idea what to expect. My tongue burned when I tasted the fizziness. I went out every now and then. My mother gave me a camera and asked me to go around to take pictures. I went to where my father was plastering and took a couple of pictures. Apart from taking pictures of my team, I also took pictures of an aphid and a spider. It was my first time painting and I found out that painting was quite fun. It was a memoriable experience.

Am I going 'Bom'?

I'm into my 3rd month staying home with baby Nathan. Everyday, there doesn't seem to be anything to look forward to, except feeding and changing my little prince, and hoping that he doesn't puke or cry too much ...

Day be day just slips off unnoticed, and I think my brain's getting rusty, haven't fed it with new knowledge for a long while.

Haven't thought of what to invest my time, bible reading and quiet time have been good. Each morning, I manage to steal time away while baby's asleep tp read it and pray. Other than that, I haven't touched any new literature since. What should I do?

Maybe when baby is more settled down, I may consider meeting other moms, like moms and babes at church, or picking up a new book to read, or at least the papers ... just something else to occupy my mind instead of flooding it with simply Nathan!

This week, I have started preparing dinners, three nights in a row, have been successful. Funny that I would look forward to doing this simple chore, I would sleep in the night, thinking and planning of what to cook for the next meal, see I really have very little to look forward to.

Hospital Stay

That was my first stay in hospital experience!

I admitted myself Saturday Morning, 15th April to Mt Alvernia when I discovered I had fresh bleeding - one of the signs of labour. We got our ready bag and off we went.

The nurses wheeled me to the delivery ward for observation. Gave me a jab to speed up baby's lungs' development. I don't feel quite right about these jabs, but what to do, they r the professionals. Then, put on the ECG to monitor baby's heart beat and my contractions. I didn't even feel that I was contracting! Doc came about an hour later, examined me, and recommended hospital stay to monitor condition.

So there went 3 days at the hospital, and discharged on Tuesday morning. I stayed all alone at night! Brave me! Thought under the close supervision of the experienced labour nurses, I would be in safe hands.

The stay wasn't that bad as I initially detested. For one, the food was good, very well balanced meals and nice herbal soups too. A TV all to myself. Besides the occasional noises from the other patients and their visitors and nurses, I was feeling comfortable, slept most of the time.

On the third night, the room got crowded with women ready to give birth, I requested to changed room to have a quieter rest. They wheeled me instantly to a 2-bedder, nice, cool and peaceful - no screaming women in labour pains or nurses rushing here and there. But terror struck me when I needed a bed pen, and the service bell didn't work. I laid there anxious for a good 15 mins before I resorted to calling home - woke hubby up to call the hospital that I needed assistance! It was one scarry experience staying all alone in that room with so one around. So, lesson learnt, always have the bell tested before you're left alone in the hospital!!

Soon, I was relieved of my agony. And the rest of the night was restful sleep. Think God has sent his guardian angels at the corners of my bed to bless my sleep. I woke up fresh for breakfast and awaits for the doc to give me the 'GO HOME' signal, which he did.

I'm more relieved now that I know Mt A nurses and services are prompt and good, more mentally prepared what to expect when the 'real' labour comes in a few weeks' time. And I can safely trust my doc for wise decisions.
